100 Years

In the late 1800s, a visiting bishop preached on being good stewards of God’s creation. After worship, a wealthy landowner hosted the Sunday lunch at his home. Before coffee and dessert, the landowner invited the bishop to join him for a brief walk.

He took him up a nearby hilltop and pointed out his vast farm and land, some of which stretched to the horizon. He described how he sacrificed, worked hard and risked much for the farm. He pointed to places where he cleared trees for row crops and built fences and barns for livestock. He explained how he moved dirt and earth to get the drainage he wanted. Then, he turned to the bishop saying, “And you mean to tell me that this isn’t my land to do as I please?”

The bishop paused for a moment before replying, “Ask me that question 100 years from now.”
